History of the Blake Street Bombers
The Blake Street Bombers was a spin-off team of the original Colorado Rockies Wheelchair Team when a few of the more competitive players ventured to start a new program during the softball rush of the late 90's. With a combination of experienced and new but elite athletic players from other sports, the team was a success on the field managing to defeat the St. Paul Saints during their first meeting at Coors Field during the Inaugural Jerry Hernandez Tournament in 1998. Ultimately, the Bombers went on to place second at that tournament but went on to win the rest of the regional tournaments they attended that first year.
In the Colorado league, the Bombers went on to win all but one of their weekly double-header games against the Colorado Rockies, Colorado Springs Wildcats and Boulder Brewers that year.
At the 1998 National Wheelchair Softball Tournament in Denver, Colorado the Blake Street Bombers finished an astounding 5th place in the country and won several Division I all-tournament awards.
