History of the Colorado Springs Wildcats
The Pikes Peak Sub-Chapter of the Mountain States Paralyzed Veterans of America has coordinated the Colorado Springs Wildcats Wheelchair Softball team since the team’s humble beginnings in 1997 when they were known as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. That first year, the newly formed Sky Sox would often go game for game with the PVA Rockies White team and placed an astonishing 11th place at the national tournament in Pasadena, Texas. In 1998, the Pikes Peak Sub-Chapter secured a sponsorship deal with the Colorado Springs Wildcats and officially changed its name that same year. The Wildcats have also been successful off the field by lobbying the City of Colorado Springs to build a permanent wheelchair softball field. The state-of-the-art field, known as Sky View Adult Sports Complex, boasts two lighted wheelchair softball fields for playing at night. Players in Colorado Springs are welcome to participate in weekly pick up games at Coors Field.
